Griffith Observatory Re-Opens Tomorrow

Desi and I's first NON-Bike date was here, at Griffith Observatory almost SIX years ago! After being closed since 2002 for renovations, the jewel of Los Angeles is set to reopen to the public TOMORROW! November third marks the beginning of a new life for the observatory. With a huge amount of space added (underground, below the entry area grass) and exhibits put in place, the old girl even has a new copper dome on her! This is a great bike ride to do from our home here in the Valley, since we get to ride from one side of the park to the other. The Hollywood sign is clearly visible as we ascend Mount Hollywood from the observatory back home.
The dream of Griffith Park's founder, Col. Griffith J. Griffith, the observatory here was to be a public (versus research) facility. It's original location was to be atop Mt. Hollywood, but after Col. Griffith's death, it was designed around it's current location. Opened in 1935, it was a huge success. It was free to enter then, and it remains free to this day. The only charge comes for the Planetarium show. reservations are needed to visit her today, so book now! Maybe a team trip to this magical place (site of the James Dean film, Rebel Without A Cause) is in order?? Grab the road bikes and meet some day for a great bike tour of the Nation's largest urban open space, and be amazed at the wilderness you'll find. You can even visit the caves where the original Batman T.V. show was shot, remember? batmobile blasting from the Batcave? that was all in Griffith Park! see ya there...
