Backbone Ladies Rock Big Bear!

Backbone's Ladies atop the Santa Monica Mountains, photo courstesy of Michael Darter

The Backbone ladies had a great weekend of racing, as well. I am only lumping them together becuase I haven't had an excuse to use that group picture yet! Looking at the race results, Vanessa Humic was slugging it out again in the SUPER-competitive Expert 19-29 class. With baby-pro's like Joy D. and the rest, this class is unbelievably hard. Vanessa fought the elevation to land firmly ahead of Joy in second place. For such a tiny thing, she sho is mean on the mountain bike!

Vanessa Humic, steamrolling to the elite ranks

Looking at the rsults online, Expert racer Dawn Lyons clearly had another mechanical on her junk-box Intense race bike. With more issues than the Life magazine, that bike has been the Achilles Heel of many races. Dawn has roared back out of semi-retirement this year to assist her teammates in the Expert ranks with several podium spots. Great job, Dawn!

Dawn Lyons, ladies team anchor and all around bad-ass.

Heidi "der Teuffel" Volpe straight tore-up her Expert Cougar Class this weekend.
As the team's "MVC" (Most Valuable Cougar), Heidi is proving that she is in it to win it every time she straddles her bike (or her man, Darter). WINNING her class, Heidi may actually have to begin racing in the Pro men's ranks in XC and Downhill.
That Cougar has claws, man!

Heidi Volpe. She will hurt you. That's to all the guys. That's right.

Great job girls, thanks for all the hard work!
