Bert's First Autograph

I know it's an old photo from 2004, but it is kind of significant. This was Bert's first autograph, signed on a hat he threw out from a sponsor at a Big Bear race. Hopefully, we will see much more of the Backbone Semi-Pro men signing autographs in the coming season! Sea Otter is coming up quick, so let me know if you need to stay in the campground!!

Pics/West Virginia

I just returned from the city where the town motto is..."hey, I can see the river from here!" and was pleasantly surprised by the locals. I had way too much fun there after work and was greeted with open arms by the college peeps from Marshall University. It looks like a great place to ride! So, I need to ride tomorrow, as Solvang is now days away. I bought a new laptop and wireless router today, and that has taken my entire afternoon...damn I'm lame with the computer stuff.
Anyhow, Dsi is busy putting the last of the new logo's on the shirt art as we speak (that was the deal..I get off her mac and buy my own, and she finishes the shirts!), and Jay came by and hammered out the details for the DH jerseys. Jimbo will be out from Colorado on the eigth, so I'd like to try and have the meeting during that time if possible. Please contact Bert if you are interested in that Urban Asault race coming to L.A. soon! Donna Felix should be coming on board with us soon, and we all can talk about the endurance xc guy from WV at the meeting.
Hope all is well, see ya'll soon....

Fontucky Training Day

On Sunday, I am meeting Joy at Fontana for a pre-ride of the XC race course, and some short track practice. If any of the DH guys want to come out, you can use my truck as a shuttle vehicle if you would like! Saturday will be a 50 mile road ride through the rolling hills between Malibu Creek State Park, and Sycamore Canyon State Park. Call me for times and what not!
Thanks, and hope to see ya'll this weekend. Anyone know how CONOR's injuries are doing??

Jay Podiums Again!

Jay Schippers (Semi-Pro DH) raced Fontana last weekend, and blew down the course to a 5th place finish...oh yeah, and did I mention he actually crashed, too? That was out of 22 other people! Jay has been working hard with coach Shaums March to improve his position, and that training and coaching appears to be paying dividends.
Thanks to Jay for keepin' it real, REAL FAST! Oh, and Happy Valentine's Day to all the Backbone Ladies out there in racer-land!

Palm Springs Century

Bev and "King" James rolled out to the Palm Springs Century today to see if they could shatter their will to live, and get some good base mileage as well. Bev hit the full 100 with some local training partners, and was setting a blistering pace up to about mile 90. At that point, it all went wrong, and Bevvie's body had said good night! She rolled in the last ten miles, and still set a very brisk time of 5 hours, 33 minutes! I couldn't drive it that fast!
King James cross and Greg "The Hammer" Pleiss opted for the fifty, due to Greg's recent knee operation. It sounds like they had a great day, under beautiful skies!

Joy's Road Race Update

So here it is, finally! Soooo she was up at 2:45 a.m., and driving to San Diego. She met up w/all the other "dirty girls" looking to try out road racing, Teri, Christie, and Chrissy Bono! After a solid mid-pack start, Joy fell back after the first lap. She then decided to work w/ Ms. Throop for an allie in the future, but had to leave Throop and head on out solo. She then met up with a girl named "Sara," and they worked their way towards the finish together. "Sara" then flatted, and Joy was forced to finish alone. It gave her a great idea of where her fitness level stands, and was a great excuse to ride with the girls. After the race, joy drove three hours back home, to coach a girl's basketball game! LOOOONG day, eh?
Anyone else racing? Let me know so we can help out and post the results! Good luck, and OH YEAH, Desi will be submitting our little film to the New York Bike Film Festival this week!
