Official Rules and Entry Form

Specifications

Outhouses must meet the following specifications:

Minimum weight shall be 200 pounds (without driver).
Minimum height shall be 6 feet from the ground to the highest point on the main body of the outhouse (chimneys, flags, signs etc. don’t count).
Minimum size shall be 9 square feet of floor.
Outhouses must be completely enclosed with an operating door.
Contain a toilet seat, roll of toilet paper and be able, if required, to be a functional outhouse.
Outhouses may have any number or type of wheels and types of devices for crewmembers to grasp while propelling the outhouse.
Steering and breaks are optional.
Outhouses may be built of any material.
Outhouses may not have a motor (must be pushed, or pulled by hand).
10. Outhouses may have logo, company or personal names painted on sides, top, or on inside, but NOT required, although each outhouse should have a catchy name.

Crew

A crew shall consist of three members, two pushers and a driver/rider, all of whom should be of basic humanoid ancestry (No dogs or other animals that can’t make a reasoned choice may ride in, or pull/push, the outhouse).



Racing Format

Racing begins on Saturday: Two outhouses race at a time in double elimination every half-hour beginning at 1 p.m. until all outhouses have raced.
Finals begin Sunday at noon and race until all semi-winners from Saturday have raced.

Race Rules

All Outhouses, riders and alternate riders must be checked in no later than 9 a.m. on Saturday; pre-registration will be accepted up to 30 days before the race at a discounted fee – see fees below.
Outhouse racing teams will consist of designated two pushers and a driver/rider. Teams may designate an alternate during the sign-in process.
Outhouses must be pushed or pulled by human power only. NO motors, sales, dog teams or gas-assisted propulsion is allowed.
Outhouses must remain in their designated lane during the entire race. IF an out house crosses into a competitor’s lane and, in the opinion of the judges, interferes with that outhouse’s ability to race, the offending outhouse will be disqualified for that heat.
Outhouses must be kept in the designated area while not racing.
Outhouse teams must maintain control/contact with their outhouse at all times during the race.
The first outhouse that crosses the finish line with any part of the outhouse will determine the winner.
Upon starting, no portion of the outhouse may extend over the starting line. It will be upon the judge’s determination as to a re-start.
The judges will determine photo finishes.
The decisions of the judges are final.


1. Entry fee is $100 for each outhouse entered.
(Exceptions – see below)
2. Teams may enter as many outhouses as they desire.
NOTE: The entry fee is used to cover event expenses, awards, entertainment, insurance and supplies. Any funds remaining after expenses (if any) will go to the Virginia City Chamber of Commerce.
3. Deadline: The entry deadline is Saturday, October 6th at 9 a.m. at the Bucket of Blood Parking lot.
(All outhouses must be in place between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.)
4. Teams may register in advance by mailing fees to:

The following is with no exceptions.
Pre registration: All registrations that are complete with Outhouse name, team name, driver/pushers, city/state, designer/builder, owner, sponsor, and contact name AND IS POSTMARKED no LATER THAN Sept. 7, 2007, will be able to register each outhouse for $85.00 – ALL others are $100.

If you raced last year (and we have names): If the form is received before the deadline date All outhouse racers who participated in the Virginia City Outhouse Races Oct. 7-8, 2006 may register each outhouse they raced last year for $75.00 (the day of the race the fee will be the standard $100).
Also: If you raced last year and you have a friend who would like to enter their outhouse – not in the same company as you, and not one of yours – and both theirs, and your registration is in on, or before Sept. 7, you, only you, may register your outhouses for $50.00 - But, both registrations must be in no later than Sept. 7, 2007. Your friend will pay $100 for their registration fee, and you must identify your friend.


1. Registration will take place at the Bucket of Blood Parking lot, C and Union Streets, at 9 a.m. This will be called the “pit” area.
2. Pre registration is encouraged – see entry form
3. All outhouses are to be in the pit area no later that 11 a.m.
4. Outhouses and Teams will be assigned a spot in the pit area and are advised to bring chairs, coolers, and some type of shade.
* NOTE: the public will be encouraged to vote on the outhouses – see awards.

Technical inspections for size, height, and weight specification will take place between the hours of 9 – 11 a.m. on Saturday October 6, 2007. Any changes or alterations are to be finished before the parade at 12 noon – the decisions about changes or alterations will be discussed with the judges followed by a final inspection.
All outhouses may, and are encouraged, to be in the parade even if they do not meet inspection rules.

Each outhouse will receive a number when entering the “pit” area. Numbers will be placed in a bag and a drawing will be held after the parade for placement in the double elimination race. All teams must be ready to race their outhouse during the race time(s). All outhouses are to be left in the pit area overnight – if any outhouse is removed it will not race the following day.





The parade will begin at the Bucket of Blood parking lot on “C” street and proceed up the hill past the Washoe Club where the outhouses must turn around and come back to the pit area.
All outhouses, teams and crews are asked to participate.
The parade is open to all outhouses, sponsors, cars, drill teams, bands, floats, horses and riders, clowns, and all other traditional parade entries. (NO tossing candy or other articles to spectators)

The public is invited to vote on the Prettiest, the Ugliest, and the Most Unusual. The votes will be counted before the final race on Sunday afternoon and awards given at the awards ceremony.
Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place race winners in each category.
Each participant will receive a “star” (sorry not a moon) to hang in their outhouse.
The location of the awards ceremony is to be announced, but all participants are invited and encouraged to come.

* Teams may enter outhouses in Modern or Classic category.
* The winners of each category will then race for Overall winner.
* There are three public vote categories: Pretties, Ugliest and Most Unusual. The race judges have nothing to do with the winners of these categories. One of your crew members may want to stay near your outhouse to answer questions any public viewer may have.


Saturday
9 a.m. – Registration check-in.
9 a.m. to 11a.m. – all outhouses in place and technical inspection in the pit area – Bucket of Blood parking lot.
11:00 a.m. – Registration ends. Prepare for the parade.
12:00 p.m. – Parade begins
12:45 p.m. – Drawing for race starting position.
1:00 p.m. - First race
1:30 p.m. – Second race
2:00 p.m. – Third race
2:30 p.m. – Fourth race
3:00 p.m. – Fifth race
3:30 p.m. – Sixth race
4:00 p.m. – Seventh race
4:30 p.m. – Eighth race
And so on until all outhouses have raced.
All times are approximate and allow for set-up and preparing for a race.
The street will be closed off for races only, then reopened so that traffic can proceed.
After each race, outhouses will turn around in the Delta Parking Lot and return to the pit area.

Sunday
10 a.m. to noon – Check in (you may make adjustments or repairs during this time but NO rebuilding). Check with judges.
12 noon - first race starts
12:30 p.m. – second elimination
1:00 p.m. – Approx. race: First Semi-final Race
1:30 p.m. – Second Semi-final Race
2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Final race(s) for the Championship

I think we all need to get together and do this! We need to put together as many outhouses as possible, and go for it! Anyone who wants to come, can come and crash at my double wide! Country hospitality at its finest bitches! :) Oh, we also had the camel races about a month ago.....only in Nevada......all of you in California only have Britney "Skank" Spears sightings and gang shootings...Northern Nevada is where the action is at!
