McClure Family Race And Rock Update

Mr. McClure and his son came with us a couple of years ago on a team fun ride near Chrsitmas, and he brought his camera! They took some great pix, and rocked the ride for a great day out. He just checked in for the first time in two years, and his son is rippin' it up for Monique Sawicki's Juniour Team!

Hey Chris -- Long time no contact! I think about you and the folks at Backbone Racing often, wondering how you all are doing and what you are up to. Willie and I both remember that Super Bowl morning ride a year and a half ago down through Sullivan Cyn...

Pua Sawicki has taken quite a liking to Willie over the last year. Enough so that last November she asked if she could have him on her new 'keiki' team. I was floored just for her to ask! Of course we said yes. Willie won the overall Junior Solo jersey in Temecula in 2007 at the age of 11 at the November race. That was really something. He broke his right wrist snowboarding on Jan 3rd, so was out for the January race, but was back in this last Saturday, and rode a great race, even if it was 104 out there.

I sent this note off to my fam and friends a few minutes ago and thought you might be interested, so here you go.

Just wanted to let you know that Willie rolled in for 1st Place in the Junior Solo category of the 12 Hours of Temecula mountain bike race down in Temecula last Saturday, braving 104 degree temps in the open sun to achieve it. He rolled for 3 3/4 laps (he had to come in from his third lap with a bit of heat exhaustion, but a cold shower brought him right back and he went out for another lap after that -- he even tried for a fifth lap at nightfall, but he'd developed some very caustic saddle sores and had to come back in from that final lap). This was Willie's first race as a fully-fledged riding member of 2007 Female Mountain Biker of the Year Pua Sawicki's Team Mata Keiki ('keiki' is kid in Hawaiian). Cool kit he's got on in the pic, huh?

Then, last night, he played at the Whisky in H'wood. The shot here is of him rocking Rage Against The Machine's Killing In The Name (it ROCKED!!). I'd intended to shoot vid but the Whisky wanted $25 from me to bring in my little cam, so that was out. I didn't have the Nikon, so the iPhone had to step in to save the day. Woot!

And, today was his last day as a 7th grader. Cool!
