Eric Carter's Vail Lake Salvation

This in from DH stud-boy Charles Libolt...

Hey Cap'n...

Just thought I would drop a line and give you an update from the SoCal region. I'm sure word is starting to get out by now, so hopefully this isn't much of a repeat for the peeps reading the blog. My friend and I went out to the area of Vail Lake Resort, in Temecula. Some of you hardcore XC guys may know the area as host to the 24hrs of Temecula race. Anyway, Eric Carter has been putting in tons of physical work and planning in the area along with the help of lots of other enthusiastic riders, and is in the process of making a mountain bike park in Temecula. The trails are still in their infancy; We put in some work around the base area and carved out the inaugural Super-D course today. I also took some runs on the first DH trail, which, while still new and a little dusty, has great potential. Just to give some perspective on the size of this thing, EC has close to 9,000 acres of land to work with. Yes, thats nine thousand acres... not a typo! BIG plans are in the works, and it all starts with people coming out and supporting this sort of thing. If anybody can make it out this coming weekend (Nov 8th/9th) for the first race on the new trails, it would really help to make sure this thing gets off on the right track. It's very rustic for now, but this place has plenty of potential to be the next great thing for southern CA if it gets the proper support from riders. For anybody not familiar with the area, there are tons of camp sites at the base area along with food and shopping near by. Hope to see you this coming weekend..
