Vegas Bob Is Back!

After Sunday's 7th place Expert finish, it's geat to see that V.B. is back to his old (and fast) self again. Just four minutes off the winner, it had to be quite a shock to the guys he has raced against in the past two years. Struggling with a pianfull knee injury that hit him two years ago, and right after he moved up from Sport Class, Bob still came to every race. He had won the Sport Class the year before, but being off the bike all winter and in constant pain really took it's toll.

We used to call him "Hot Dog Bob" after the first Camp-N-Ride he attended. I have never seen an elite athlete athlete consume so many nitrates in my life! Anyway, last year wasn't any different. Bob had moved up to a class with faster guys, longer distances, and had not yet been able to really train at all. He was constantly sick, which bled over to the early part of this year as well. Knowing what a true competitor VB is, it was hard to watch him NOT whip everyone's ass. Finally, this year, his coaching has taken root and his health is good (damn syphillis), so it was time for VB to break somebody.

Firestone was Bob's chance to regain that confidence and form he had in 2004. He broke out at the gun, and never looked back. Rocketing by us each feed zone, you could see his legs churning out the power, ready to reel in one rider after another.
Confidence restored, Vegas Bob mashed his way to a long overdue top ten. If I were a Semi-Pro (Papo), I'd be nervous. It may take him six months, it may take a year, but I see VB coming for all of them. Nice to have ya back Bob...
